Increased incidence of childhood mental disorders following exposure to early life infection

چکیده
Early life exposure to infectious diseases confers risk for adult psychiatric disorders but relatively few human population studies have examined associations with childhood mental disorder. Here we the effects of maternal infection during pregnancy, and child in early (birth age 4 years), relation first disorder diagnosis (age 5–13 years). The study sample comprised 71,841 children represented a cohort New South Wales, Australia, followed from birth adolescence via linkage administrative registers. Childhood disease was determined prenatal period (i.e., gestation), (between years) using NSW Ministry Health Admitted Patients data collection. Days recorded diagnoses between years Health’s Patients, Emergency Department Mental Ambulatory collections. While crude hazard ratios both exposures indicated significantly earlier associated these factors, only higher adjusted (aHR) any (aHR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.11–1.32), externalising 1.45, 1.18–1.79) developmental 1.82, 1.49–2.22) when < 5 were taken into account. Exposure childhood, not exposure, appears be childhood.

Mental Disorders in Early Childhood.
BACKGROUND About 17% of all children suffer from a mental disorder in early childhood, defined as the period up to the age of 6 years. METHODS This review is based on publications retrieved by a selective search in PubMed and the Web of Science, as well as on the authors' clinical and scientific experience. RESULTS In children up to age 2, disorders of emotional and motor regulation are com...
متن کاملHistological Evaluation of Pancreas Following Early Life Stress in Exposure to Pubertal Stress in Male Rats
Background and purpose: Stressful events in early-life induce metabolic disorders in adolescence. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of early-life stress on number or area of Langerhans islets in exposure to foot-shock and psychological stress in male rats. Materials and methods: The rats were divided into six groups: control (without stress), early-stress (stress at 2 weeks o...
متن کاملEarly-Life Exposure to Perfluoroalkyl Substances and Childhood Metabolic Function
BACKGROUND Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are synthetic chemicals that may persist in the environment and in humans. There is a possible association between early-life PFAS exposure and metabolic dysfunction in later life, but data are limited. METHODS We studied 665 mother-child pairs in Project Viva, a Boston, Massachusetts-area cohort recruited 1999-2002. We quantified concentrations of...
متن کاملIncreased lung and bladder cancer incidence in adults after in utero and early-life arsenic exposure.
BACKGROUND From 1958 to 1970, >100,000 people in northern Chile were exposed to a well-documented, distinct period of high drinking water arsenic concentrations. We previously reported ecological evidence suggesting that early-life exposure in this population resulted in increased mortality in adults from several outcomes, including lung and bladder cancer. METHODS We have now completed the f...
متن کاملFragmentation and unpredictability of early-life experience in mental disorders.
Maternal sensory signals in early life play a crucial role in programming the structure and function of the developing brain, promoting vulnerability or resilience to emotional and cognitive disorders. In rodent models of early-life stress, fragmentation and unpredictability of maternally derived sensory signals provoke persistent cognitive and emotional dysfunction in offspring. Similar variab...
